Let’s take the planet Saturn as an example. Saturn takes about 28-29 years to complete a full cycle around the zodiac, and around that age, you experience your Saturn Return, a major rite of passage. When Saturn returns to the same place in your chart where it was at your birth, that’s when you'll feel its energy most intensely, and this transit lasts around 2.5 years. If you think back to what was happening in your life around that time, I bet you can recall at least one event, or a sequence of events, that deeply affected you.

Saturn is often called the “lord of karma” because it represents structure, boundaries, responsibility, and the area of life we're meant to master, because it’s typically where we’ve struggled the most in past lives.

In my natal chart, Saturn is in the 7th house, which governs relationships—whether romantic, close friendships, or business partnerships. When I was 28, Saturn had its “return” to my 7th house, and during that time, I went through a divorce. At the time, I wasn’t yet studying astrology, so I didn’t realize it was my Saturn Return, but looking back, the timing couldn’t have been more aligned.

Saturn’s energy holds us accountable to our karma, our soul’s purpose, and the lesson’s we’re meant to learn. While some view Saturn’s influence as harsh, and understandably so, what’s really happening during intense Saturn transits is that karma is playing out.

If any adjustments or course corrections are needed, Saturn will make sure they happen. Much like my Saturn Return, this transit also brought its own set of relationship lessons, often in unexpected ways.

But thankfully, having learned from the previous transit, I was a bit more prepared this time.

I’m incredibly grateful that I understood what was happening as it unfolded. This awareness allowed me to navigate the transit with more clarity, make more intentional decisions, and, most importantly, extend grace to myself. It also gave me the opportunity to truly celebrate how much I had grown.

Even though planetary transits and their effects are somewhat inevitable, the planets don't actually control us, they simply offer energy that supports our life lessons.
