A Psychic Reading Left You Feeling Confused? Why Self-Trust Always Comes First

A Fortune Telling Session in Progress

If you’ve ever walked away from a psychic or intuitive reading feeling heavy, discouraged, or unsettled, you’re not alone. Sometimes, a single phrase or prediction from a reader can stick in the back of our mind for years—shaping decisions, planting doubt, or making us question ourselves.

And while connecting with a psychic or intuitive can be a wonderfully supportive and clarifying experience, it’s important to understand that every reading is filtered through the lens of the reader’s unconscious mind.

The way we experience life isn’t as objective as we’d like to think. We don’t just see what’s “out there,” we see through the filter of our unconscious mind. This part of you quietly stores every memory, belief, and unresolved emotion you’ve ever had.

It operates through 21 key principles that shape how you think, feel, and act—over 90% of the time—without you even realizing it.

That doesn’t mean psychic readings aren’t valuable. It means discernment, the ability to feel into what resonates with you, is essential. No matter what information someone shares, you need to trust yourself enough to weigh it against what feels true in your body and in your heart.

That self-trust is what keeps you grounded and empowered, instead of outsourcing your authority to someone else’s perception.

The Lens of the Unconscious

No matter how skilled, compassionate, or gifted a psychic is, they’re still human. And being human means filtering everything, including psychic or intuitive information, through unconscious programming.

Every reader has to interpret what comes through, and even the clearest channel is still shaped by their personal experiences, beliefs, and biases.

That’s why discernment is so important, both for the person giving a reading and the one receiving it.

I’ve heard so many stories of people walking away from a session not feeling inspired, but feeling small, discouraged, or carrying around someone else’s words like a weight.

One client told me that years ago, an Akashic Records reader flat-out told her she “wasn’t meant to have children.” Imagine hearing that when motherhood is something your heart longs for. She left that session feeling dismissed and heartbroken, and the message stuck with her for years.

By the time she came to me for an astrology reading, she had already been a mother of two for over a decade. And when I looked at her chart, I saw clear indicators of her potential for motherhood all along.

That’s the risk when we hand too much authority over to someone else, we can confuse their perception with truth and forget about using our own discernment.

Discernment and the Power of Self-Trust

So how do you use psychic or intuitive guidance in a way that empowers you instead of disempowers you? It comes down to discernment and self-trust.

Discernment means pausing to ask yourself:

  • Does this message resonate with my inner knowing?

  • Am I treating it as supportive guidance, or am I handing my authority over to it?

  • Is it being shared with compassion and respect, or does it create fear, doubt, or disempowerment?

The best readings never override your free choice. They won’t box you in with absolutes like “this will happen” or “this won’t happen.” Instead, they reflect possibilities, energetic potentials, and themes already stirring within you. They act as guideposts, not commands.

This is the first layer of discernment. If you ever receive a reading that feels pushy, fear-based, or like someone is trying to override your autonomy, the healthiest choice is to detach and not take it to heart.

But if you really want to get the most value from a reading, there’s another layer of discernment to consider: your own unconscious programming. Sometimes the part of you that reacts to a message isn’t your authentic self—it’s your programming.

For example, someone might give you a heartfelt compliment and truly mean it, but your immediate reaction is defensiveness or dismissal. That doesn’t mean you’re not meant to receive compliments—it means your unconscious programming conflicts with the message, making it harder for you to take in.

The same thing can happen in a reading. Blocking or rejecting a message doesn’t always mean it isn’t true or helpful; it may mean your programming is filtering it through an old survival lens.

So not only do you need to be aware of the unconscious lens of the psychic or intuitive reader, you also need to pay attention to how you are receiving the information.

Which part of you is listening? Are you connected to your authentic desires—or are you operating from programmed wants?

Discernment goes both ways because remember, the unconscious mind drives over 90% of our thoughts, decisions, and behaviors.

If a reader has just gone through heartbreak, their lens may color how they talk about your love life. And if you’re feeling an intense desire to be in a relationship, you may unconsciously reject or dismiss guidance that doesn’t tell you what you want to hear.

Instead of going from reader to reader hoping to hear a specific outcome, the deeper work is recognizing when your reactions are coming from programmed wants versus authentic desires. That awareness is what frees you.

This is why the foundation of self-trust always comes back to healing and reconnecting with yourself. When you know how to recognize and trust your own intuition, guidance from others becomes just that—guidance—not a replacement for your authority.

A common pitfall is confusing fear with intuition. What feels like a “gut hit” may actually be your ego or protective programming trying to keep you safe, not your authentic inner knowing. Discernment is what helps you tell the difference.

The more you practice discerning between your ego (fear and programmed wants) and your authentic self (clarity and authentic desires), the stronger your self-trust becomes. And from that place, every reading you receive becomes an opportunity for empowerment instead of confusion.

Engaging With Guidance From a Place of Sovereignty

Seeking guidance isn’t the problem. We all need mirrors on the growth journey, and wise feedback offered with humility and compassion can be a powerful catalyst for growth.

I myself serve as a guide for clients—but my role isn’t to hand you the answers or tell you your fate. It’s to help you uncover the wisdom that’s already within you.

The most transformative moments of self-discovery don’t come from someone else telling you who you are, they come when you connect the dots for yourself. That’s when guidance becomes empowering instead of limiting.

And this is where sovereignty comes in. True sovereignty is living from your own inner authority.

When you release repressed emotions and limiting beliefs, reprogram unconscious patterns, and reconnect with your authentic desires, you stop outsourcing your power. You don’t need certainty from outside of you, because you realize it’s been within you all along.

That doesn’t mean you’ll never seek support again. Psychic readings, astrology, mentorship, or coaching can all be beautiful tools—but the relationship shifts.

Instead of depending on them, you engage with them as mirrors, companions, and catalysts. You take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, and let it enrich the wisdom you already carry.

And when you’ve done the deeper unconscious work, there’s an added clarity—you can trust that what resonates is aligned with your authentic desires, not your programmed wants.

That’s the gift of sovereignty: the confidence to trust your own compass, knowing outside guidance can illuminate your path, but never replace your authority over it.

Your Next Step

If you’ve found yourself relying on outside voices for reassurance or clarity, you’re not alone—and it makes perfect sense. But you are capable of trusting yourself and tuning into your own guidance.

In The Reclaimed Mind, I help you align your unconscious mind with your conscious awareness so you can reclaim your inner authority.

From that place, guidance from others becomes a resource rather than a crutch, and whatever resonates does so because it’s aligned with your authentic desires—not your programmed wants. That’s when discernment stops feeling like a struggle and starts feeling natural.

If you’re ready to step into self-trust and sovereignty, I invite you to book a Discovery Call. Let’s explore how you can release old programming, reconnect with your authentic desires, and become the kind of person who listens to their own soul above all else.
